Silver Ring with Large Floral Bezel
Lucknow, India
18th century

diameter of bezel: 3.4cm, interior diameter of hoop: 1.9cm, weight: 11g

This unusual ring of solid silver has a large bezel. The bezel has been fabricated from sheet silver and so is hollow. The face is pierced and features a roundel
of flowerheads interspersed with leaves arrayed around a central finial; the finial being surrounded by a tint applied silver spheres. The bezel itself has
crenulated edges giving it the overall appearance itself of a single bloom.

The form of the flowers and leaves depicted on the bezel show Mughal influence but stylistically are more in keeping with 18th century Lucknow silverwork.

The ring has an excellent patina. There are minor age-related imperfections as might be expected. It is stable, wearable, and without repairs.
