Egyptian Fine Silver Measuring Ladle

This simple ladle or spoon comprises a semi-hemispherical bowl and a long, gadrooned-stem handle. The outside of the bowl of the ladle is decorated with thin, fine geometric border of a type that is typical of Egyptian silverware.

The handle and bowl both have early Egyptian hallmarks for silver that is in excess of 90% purity.

The ladle seems too big to serve as a spoon, and yet is small for a ladle. It might have served as a measuring ladle for liquid – perhaps for medicines.

It is good wear and a lovely patina. It feels wonderful in the hand and the waxy, high-quality nature of the silver is clearly evident. Overall, this is a beautiful piece of silverware.
