Thailand Silver Bracelet
Twisted Silver Wire Bracelet
Northern Thailand
circa 1900
external width: 7.5cm, internal width: 5.5cm, weight: 129g
This elegantbracelet comprises solid silver wires twisted into a ‘C’ form which finish with solid silver terminals that have been engraved lightly with geometric patterns.
Such bracelets were worn mostly by Akha women in northern Thailand, in the area known as the Golden Triangle.
Similar bracelets are illustrated in Lewis (1984, p. 43), Geoffroy-Schneiter (2011, p. 223) & Daalder (2009, p . 227).
This example is in a fine, stable condition without losses. It has a fine patina consistent with a circa 1900 dating.
