Burmese Colonial Ivory & Silver Paper Knife
Carved Ivory Paper Knife with Silver Mounts
Burma
circa 1910
length: 33cm
This very fine ivory paper knife is carved on both sides of the hilt and cover with figures in traditional Burmese attire within cartouches that are surrounded by delicately scrolling foliage. The last panel of the cover shows a peacock motif, front and back.
The hilt and cover are finished with silver bands that are variously plain and engraved with fine leafy scrolling.
The blade of the knife comprises a single slither of ivory with a band of scrolling open-work that matches the engraving on the silver mounts.
The item is in excellent condition – there are no chips, splits, losses, or repairs.
