Burmese Crystal Buddha
SOLD
Rock Crystal Buddha
possibly Shan People, Burma
circa 19th century
height: 4.5cm
This small image of the Buddha seated in the ‘calling-the-earth-to-witness’ (Bhumisparsha Mudra) position is carved from a single piece of rock crystal.
It is difficult to determine precisely its origins, but the styling suggests a Burmese and most probably a Shan provenance.
Age is also problematic with rock crystal. An old collection label to the base suggests that the image (most probably) been in the UK for many decades at least.
The image has its own fitted box covered with yellow velvet.
The box and the buddha are in fine condition.
