Burmese Silver Covered Bowl
Small Repoussed Lidded Silver Powder Pot
Burma
circa 1870
height: 11.5cm, diameter: 10.3cm, weight: 266g
This small, elegant powder pot has a base that is based on the more typical Burmese silver bowls. It has a tightly-fitting cover with an unusual, solid-cast finial in the form of a Burmese head.
The sides of the bowl are chased and engraved with roundels containing Burmese figures, and are separated by scrolling tendrils.
The lid is very finely chased with vegetal scrolling.
Most probably the pot was intended to hold face powder as part of a lady’s dressing table arrangement, hence the air-tight lid.
