Mughal Indian Diamond Gold Ring
Gold & Enamel Diamond Ring
North India
first half of the 19th century
ring size – 6 (US), M (UK); weight: 6g
This fine Mughal-style gold ring is set with four old-cut Golconda-style diamonds in tear and heart-shaped box settings. The back and sides of the bezel are decorated with white, red, blue and green enamelling. The hoop is original and also decorated with enamel.
The ring comes with its own ring box with the name and address details of a London jeweller. The box and the ring probably are an early marriage but the ring is obviously from India, so the box cannot be said to be original to the ring. The mount for the diamond on the left has been riddled slightly to ensure that the diamond stays in place, but otherwise the ring is in a stable and wearable condition.
