Ottoman Silver Zarfs

Six Ottoman Silver Zarfs

The six, each of flaring ‘tulip’ form, are stamped with tughra marks and maker’s marks.

Each is engraved with a wide band of repeated Arabic which says ‘There is no God but Allah’, all within foliage or petalled borders. The rims (top and bottom) are finely beaded.

Zarfs were used in many parts of the Ottoman empire to hold small porcelain cups in which hot, thick Turkish coffee was served.
