Sewar Dagger, Indonesia
Sewar Dagger with Horn & Silver Mounts
Sumatra/Malay Peninsula
19th century
length: 34.3cm
This fine sewar dagger has a chape, upper scabbard and hilt ring all encased in sheet silver that is engraved with scrolling plant and geometric motifs.
The wooden scabbard is further decorated with four double bands of silver. The hand guard and hilt are of finely carved and pierced horn.
Sewars were intended as stabbing weapons. Accordingly, the knife here is long, thin and single-edged – ideal for stabbing.
This example is in fine condition. There are no losses or repairs. It has a fine patina.
