Listen here to a fine, well-produced podcast of a discussion between Vidhya Iyer, the host of Mindful Business and Sana Javeri Kadri, founder of Diaspora Co.

They discuss the history of the Indian spice trade and Sana’s efforts to bring the spices of small growers in India to markets in the West.

Most importantly, Sana emphasises the need for freshness when it comes to spices, and explains how so often what is available on most supermarket shelves is already stale.

The spice trade has driven much of world history, as well as the form and scope of the field of  East-West antiques – objects that are influenced by the interaction between Europe and Asia- which now are so popular with museums and collectors.
