Brass & Hide Shield

This fine shield is covered in hide and is decorated with dozens of engraved brass plaques, many of which are domed and in high relief. Others are in crescent form showing the item’s Islamic aesthetic.

The reverse of the shield shows the hide and its age and patina. The centre has a padded leather grip which also has four iron rings attached.

Baluchistan is in what is now west Pakistan. It is mostly a dry, desert region. The main ethnic groups are the Baloch people and the Pashtuns, who comprise more than 80% of the population, and are mostly Sunni Muslims.

The shield is in excellent condition. There are no losses and no repairs.
