    Provenance

    UK art market

This fine belt of high-grade silver is composed of four rows of decorated links and a two-panel central clasp that comprises two equal silver square plaques decorated with silver applique work arrayed as star burst motifs. The clasp is held together by a long silver screw.

The belt is heavier than expected – almost half a kilofram of high-grade silver has been used in its construction.

A very similar example attributed to Gwalior is illustrated in Untracht (1997, p. 243).

The belt is in fine condition, and is wearable.
