    Indian Woven Silver Bracelet

    Sotheby's New York; Collection of (the late) Paul Walter; probably acquired by him in London.

    This bracelet of loosely woven, rigid, thick silver wire, is from Madhya Pradesh and worn by Mahratta and Gujarati women in the Raval community, and in Orissa.

    A screwing mechanism is hidden in the face of the bracelet which is decorated with a raised, tiered floral motif.

    The bracelet has a fine patina and obvious age. It is wearable.
