Northern Indian Turquoise, Enamel & Gold Bracelet

    Northern India
    circa 1860

    circumference: 18cm, width: 1.3cm, weight 36g

    Sold

    Provenance

    UK art market

This unusual and very pretty bracelet comprises multiple flower-form lac-filled segments sections covered in a thin layer of gold and set with turquoise cabochons.

The edges and visible reverse parts of the gold-covered segments have been decorated with green cream and red enamel.

The bracelet opens and closes with an open box clasp. This functions well and provides a tight closure.

The construction of the bracelet involves each segment being attached to a substrate of metal-wrapped cord that has then been attached to a velvet interior.

The bracelet is in fine condition. There is the expected wear to the enamel (but the enamel is barely visible in any event.) The bracelet has obvious age and yet its construction remains robust and wearable (not for every day use but more for special occasions.)
