    height: 7cm, width: 5.6cm, depth: 3.1cm, weight: 77g

    Provenance

    UK art market

This small Himalayan ga’u box is of silver with a deity with multiple arms and attributes, standing on a lotus petal platform. The front and sides are of well-worn silver and the backing plate on the reverse is of hammered sheet copper.

A silver lug or loop on each side has been used to tie the box closed. It has remained unopened and most probably contains some small items with talismanic properties and possibly a small amount of scripture.

This small box would have been suspended from the neck of an adherent, perhaps on a necklace with other boxes.

It is a small and fine example, with plenty of age and wear.
