This unusual gilded bronze candle stand has been cast with three flared, zoomorphic feet; a wide saucer with a raised rim; and a baluster-form stem which leads to a pineapple-form head into which a wax candle or taper could be inserted. A pair of holes on each side of the neck would have allowed a pin to be inserted to hold the candle securely.
The interior of the saucer has been engraved with floral scrolls and lotus petal borders.
The candlestick probably is from Thailand or an adjacent country and would have been used in relation to a Buddhist altar.
The candlestick sits flatly and evenly on its three legs. There is minor age-related loss to the gilding but otherwise, the candlestick is in fine condition.
